Welcome to the Tansu website

Tansu is based within Redbrick Mill (formerly a large Victorian weaving mill) in Batley, West Yorkshire. (Link to Redbrick site). Open 7 days a week Monday – Friday 9.30 – 5.30 late night Thursday to 8.00 Saturday 9.00 – 6.00 and Sunday 11.00 – 5.00 Tansu boasts the largest collection of Japanese antique furniture in Europe and have now extended their `Oriental’ stock with a substantial range of Chinese furniture and artifacts.

Virtually all of our Japanese stock has been sourced for us in and around the Kyoto region by our life-long friend John Sutton. John lives and trades in Australia and has been involved in the buying and selling of Japanese antiques for the past 25 years.
Some 2 years ago John persuaded us to receive shipments of Chinese furniture and artifacts – sourced mainly from Bejing but with several Tibetan and Mongolian articles also.

Over the past few years we have also endeavoured to acquire a range of unusual/beautiful giftware – so for that something special and different why not try Tansu.

The pages within are by no means exhaustive of Tansu’s stock range but are intended to profile selected items. In order to profile as much of our stock as possible (many items are antiques and as such of a very individual nature) we intend to change our website on a weekly basis – please check availability of stock or if similar items are available.
